The Flamingo Gardens stretch over 60 acres and presents the history of the natural ecosystem within the Florida Everglades. Packed with lush gardens that showcase rare, exotic and native plants, Flamingo Gardens has an array of activities for all ages to participate in. The “Free-Flight” Aviary, Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary and historic Wray Home are just a few sites to see. The citrus groves and the Wray Botanical Collection have a countless variety depicting the colorful flora and fauna within the area. This is a must visit for residents and visitors alike.
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is just a short walk from beachside shops and condos. An oasis of tropical hammocks, the park was a gift from Hugh Taylor Birch to Florida’s posterity. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, there are four distinct natural communities. Visitors have opportunities to canoe and paddle along a mile-long freshwater lagoon or fish from the seawall. Nature enthusiasts can hike along two short trails and explore local plants and wildlife. A paved park road is also available for bicyclists and skaters. Picnic areas and pavilions with water and electricity are available for rental. Camping is also allowed in certain areas.
